Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a duly registered incorporated Trustee, a women-led, local not-for-profit, faith-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill the position of a Registered Nurse.   

WEWE seeks to recruit a hardworking, devout Registered Nurse who believes in God and the principles of Jesus Christ, including the principle of laying down one’s life for others. The ideal candidate is someone who loves children and has resolved in their heart to uphold righteousness, despite the high levels of corruption within the primary healthcare system, driven by their faith in God. We are looking for a Registered Nurse who, due to their commitment to doing what is right, has become the subject of ridicule among peers. Position:               Registered Nurse  

Location:              The successful candidate must be based in Abuja

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • The applicant should have a Diploma or Degree in Nursing Science (e.g., Bachelor of Nursing Science).
  • Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
  • Must have a valid license, i.e., up-to-date practicing license with the appropriate national licensing and/or registration board.
  • Must be in good professional standing with no disciplinary actions pending.
  • The applicant should have a Post-basic training or certification in any of the following areas is highly desirable for this position (Public Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Primary Health Care Nursing, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, Epidemiology, and Disease Control)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3–6 years of post-registration nursing experience.
  • Hands-on experience in administering vaccines according to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) schedule.
  • Familiarity with the correct vaccine types, dosages, and routes (intradermal, intramuscular, oral, subcutaneous).
  • Experience conducting routine immunization sessions at Primary Health Facilities (PHCs) and during outreach or mobile sessions.
  • Ability to manage and respond to Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) following national reporting protocols.
  • Proven ability to handle vaccine storage and transportation and maintaining the cold chain (2–8°C).
  • Experience in using vaccine vial monitors (VVMs) and temperature monitoring devices.
  • Competence in vaccine inventory management, including stock recording, requisition, and minimizing wastage.
  • Familiarity with cold chain equipment maintenance (e.g., refrigerators, vaccine carriers, cold boxes).
  • Experience maintaining immunization registers, tally sheets, child health cards, and monthly summary forms.
  • Knowledge of data entry and reporting using District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) data tools, or Open Data Kit (ODK) platforms.
  • Ability to track defaulters and ensure follow-up for missed doses.
  • Experience analyzing and using data to improve immunization coverage and quality
  • Practical experience working in a PHC facility, providing maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH)
  • Familiarity with antenatal, postnatal, and well-baby clinics, integrating immunization services.
  • Experience in health promotion, nutrition education, and growth monitoring alongside vaccination.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • S/he will administer vaccines according to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) guidelines and Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI)
  • S/he will ensure correct vaccine dosage, route, and technique for each antigen (e.g., BCG, OPV, DTP, HepB, Measles, HPV, etc.).
  • S/he will screen clients (infants, children, pregnant women, and adults) for eligibility and contraindications.
  • S/he will provide safe injection practices and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) during immunization.
  • S/he will maintain the cold chain system (2–8°C) to ensure vaccine potency from storage to administration.
  • S/he will monitor and record temperature readings using Vaccine Vial Monitors (VVMs) and cold chain temperature logs.
  • S/he will ensure proper storage, stock rotation, and handling of vaccines and diluents.
  • S/he will report and prevent vaccine wastage or stock-outs through accurate inventory management.
  • S/he will conduct community sensitization and awareness campaigns on the importance of immunization, targeting caregivers and community leaders.
  • S/he will address vaccine hesitancy and misinformation.
  • S/he will promote routine immunization, outreach services, and national immunization days (e.g., Polio or Measles campaigns).
  • S/he will maintain accurate immunization registers, tally sheets, and child health cards.
  • S/he will enter data into the District Health Information System (DHIS2) or Health Facility Immunization Data Tool (HFD) as required by FCT health authorities.
  • S/he will compile and submit weekly or monthly immunization reports to the Primary Health Care Department of the Area Council.
  • S/he will track defaulters and ensure follow-up for missed vaccinations.
  • S/he will evaluate immunization coverage, drop-out rates, and cold chain performance indicators.
  • S/he will identify gaps in immunization coverage and contribute to action plans for improvement.
  • S/he will work with Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), Health Educators, Cold Chain Officers, and Ward Development Committees.
  • S/he will participate in inter-sectoral meetings and immunization review sessions at the Area Council level.
  • S/he will recognize, manage, and document Adverse Event Following Immunizations (AEFIs) according to NPHCDA protocols.
  • Perform other activities as may be assigned by the supervising staff.
