URGENT RECRUITMENT IN WIDOWS AND ORPHANS EMPOWERMENT ORGANIZATION (WEWE) – A BOARD MEMBER

RECRUITMENT OF A BOARD MEMBER

Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) seeks an additional Board member for a renewable three-year term. WEWE values candidates who share its mission and are based in Abuja, especially certified professional Chartered Accountants, Auditors, Medical Doctors, Lawyers, or those with NGO leadership experience.

The roles and responsibilities of WEWE Board Members include:

  • Use your good office to design, participate, and drive fundraising campaigns
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction, and governance of WEWE. including its vision, mission, values, goals, objectives, and structural framework.
  • ⁠Select, appoint, support, and conduct an annual performance review of the Executive Director.
  • ⁠Develop, ⁠review, and approve organizational policies, work plans, budgets, staff salaries, and compensation packages.
  • Ensure WEWE is compliant to the country’s statutory regulations
  • ⁠Assess organizational performance across programs, management, finance, operations, and partnerships with institutional associates.
  • ⁠⁠Appoint external auditors to review the organization’s financial transactions and management practices annually, and submit the audit report to the Board of Trustees.
  • ⁠⁠Initiate or defend legal actions on behalf of WEWE in its corporate capacity.
  • ⁠Apply to the Corporate Affairs Commission for any changes to WEWE’s name or objectives, and for approval of new or replacement trustees.
  • ⁠Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including the submission of annual returns to the Corporate Affairs Commission in line with the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at least 10 years of professional experience in leadership roles such as Head of Unit, Head of Department/Division, Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, Chief Executive Officer, or other top management positions.
  • ⁠Candidates must be registered or certified professionals, such as chartered accountants, auditors, senior lawyers, medical doctors, public health practitioners, bankers, financial experts, child psychologists, registered nurses, or other recognized professionals in any field.
  • ⁠Qualified professionals are strongly encouraged to apply
  • ⁠Candidates must demonstrate integrity, honesty, and a genuine passion for service.
  • ⁠Candidates must possess a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) issued by the Federal or State Inland Revenue Service.
  • ⁠Candidates must be of sound mind and must not have been declared otherwise by any court.
  • ⁠Candidates must not have been convicted of any offense involving fraud or dishonesty within the past five years.
  • ⁠Candidates residing in Abuja will have an added advantage.
  • ⁠Candidates with prior Board experience will also be at an advantage.

Service on WEWE’s Board is voluntary and does not come with any remuneration or financial benefits. Board members may, however, receive administrative support as well as travel and accommodation reimbursements related to official Board duties, subject to the availability of funds. Please note that WEWE does not provide sitting allowances for attending meetings.

Additionally, WEWE enforces a strict conflict-of-interest policy that prevents family members or relatives of Board members from being employed by, or receiving financial benefits from, the organization.

The Incorporated Trustee of Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a credible, thriving, women-led, faith-based not-for-profit NGO, officially registered on June 7, 2009. WEWE was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with RC Number CAC/IT/33132. Before its official registration, WEWE started as a small Community-Based Organization (CBO) registered with the Okigwe Local Government Welfare Unit in Imo State on January 28, 2005. It began with an initial income of $6,000 per year in 2005 and has grown to an average annual income of over $1 million. It has also expanded from 1 staff member in 2025 to 20, and from working in a few communities in Imo State to operating in over 531 communities across 17 states. WEWE now has fully equipped offices in Abuja and Rivers State.
