Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a duly registered incorporated Trustee, a women-led, local not-for-profit, faith-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill the position of a Certified Laboratory Scientist.   

WEWE is seeking to hire a hardworking and dedicated Certified Laboratory Scientist who believes in God and the principles of Jesus Christ, including the idea of sacrificing oneself for others. The ideal candidate loves children and is firmly committed to upholding righteousness, despite high levels of corruption in the primary healthcare system, driven by their faith in God. We are looking for a Certified Laboratory Scientist who, because of their dedication to doing what is right, may face ridicule from peers. Additionally, we value a Certified Laboratory Scientist who is passionate about children and genuinely cares about patient well-being beyond the hospital setting. Position:              Certified Laboratory Scientist  

Location:             The successful candidate must be based in Abuja

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants should have a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline and a post-graduate qualification in Lab sciences with a minimum of seven (7) years post-NYSC (minimum of Second-Class Upper – 2.1)
  • Applicants should have a valid practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
  • A master’s degree or equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Psychology, Nursing, and/or Midwifery, an MPH, MBBS, Medical, or other relevant master’s degree will be an added advantage

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Applicants should have 7–10 years of post-registration laboratory experience with Primary Health Care Facilities
  • Applicants should have a strong understanding of laboratory protocol, especially for children and young infants
  • Applicants should be proficient in laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with team members
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including professional-level English language skills, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Applicants should have good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven analytical, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in working with ICT systems, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel will be an added advantage

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • S/he will perform routine laboratory investigations, including hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and other diagnostic tests within Primary Health Care Facilities (PHCs) across the FCT.
  • S/he will support mobile immunization efforts by participating in house-to-house outreach and administering vaccines in alignment with national health campaigns.
  • S/he will collect, label, and process biological specimens accurately, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to laboratory protocols.
  • S/he will monitor and maintain cold chain systems to preserve vaccine potency during transportation and field operations.
  • S/he will collaborate with PHC personnel, local health authorities, and community stakeholders to enhance immunization coverage and laboratory service delivery.
  • S/he will engage in public health education and community mobilization activities to promote vaccine awareness and uptake.
  • S/he will uphold strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards to ensure safety and minimize risk of contamination or disease transmission.
  • Perform other activities as may be assigned by the supervising staff.
