The Incorporated Trustees of Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization [hereinafter referred to as “Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE)”] a local not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill in the positions of Laboratory Specialist
WEWE is currently implementing a US Center for Disease Control (CDC) funded project as a sub-grantee in Rivers State targeting over 140,000 beneficiaries per annum. Children, adolescents, and adult caregivers are the key population for FY24 and we are looking for a God-fearing, talented, gifted, and intelligent Laboratory Specialist to improve our services
Position: Laboratory Specialist
Location: The successful candidate will be based in Rivers and Abuja
Job Description:
- S/he will provide technical assistance and training to the laboratory staff as part of overall capacity building and continuous improvement schemes for the communities
- S/he will support the laboratory data management and data sharing
- S/he will collect blood samples
- S/he will ensure that the laboratory equipment is well-cleaned and sterilized
- S/he will ensure that the laboratory environment is well-cleaned and arranged at all times
- S/he must be a registered and licensed Laboratory Specialist
- S/he will conduct laboratory tests and analyze laboratory results
- S/he will record the outcome of the laboratory test analysis
- S/he will conduct viral load testing and CD4 count testing
- S/he will conduct retention and recency testing (Dry blood spot tests for HIV-exposed infants)
- S/he will provide technical assistance, laboratory strengthening, and quality assurance/quality control materials and programs.
- S/he will conduct assessments and audits of clinical laboratories performing services to the project.
- S/he will collaborate with project staff and laboratory management to lead the follow-up of needed corrective and preventive actions following assessments and audits.
- S/he will support the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to build laboratory capacity and quality concerning accepted standards and requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A first degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline and a post-graduate qualification in Lab sciences with a minimum of seven (7) years post-NYSC
- A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Psychology, Nursing, and/or Midwifery, an MPH, MBBS, Medical, or other relevant master’s degree will be an added advantage
- S/he should have a current certificate from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
- S/he should have a good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail, proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures
- Have a strong understanding of laboratory protocol
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work with team members
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including professional-level English language skills, presentation, and reporting skills.
- Proven analytical, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of PEPFAR Program reporting requirements including familiarity with the data collection and reporting tools
- Proficiency in working with ICT systems, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. R will be an added advantage
